Outstanding Latinos received “Si se Puede” Awards
Aug. 13, 2008


Jim Santiago, Economic Development Director of Nuestras Raices, Inc. and Rafael Bones, Human Resource Director of Westfield State College received “Si se Puede” (Yes we Can) awards at a Business and Professional Networking Event held at Shakago Piano & Martini Bar. Both Mr. Santiago and Mr. Bones were recognized by the Massachusetts Latino Chamber of Commerce for their professional development and serving as role models.

The Massachusetts Latino Chamber of Commerce took the opportunity to welcomed new members Ren้ Romero of Admark Transportation, F้lix Cordero, La Voz del Pueblo y Egidio Robinson Morales, Shotcrete Concrete, Mike Tuckey, and Rexene Picard de Futureworks, Inc.

The President of the Massachusetts Latino Chamber of Commerce, Carlos Gonzalez, met with Congressman Charles B. Rangel (D-NY) Chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means, and Nydia M. Velazquez (D-NY), Chairwomen of the Small Business Committee in New York. The main topic was SBA and access to capital for micro businesses.

Governor Deval Patrick visits small businesses
During his visit to Springfield Governor Deval Patrick met with Yasmin Cortes, owner of Appliance Plus and Rudy Reynoso, owner of Rudy’s Bar & Grill. Rudy Reynoso gave the Governor a tour of the new restaurant which will serve Spanish and American cuisine, opening on August 1, 2008. “Getting started hasn’t been easy, Rudy told the Governor, “Thanks to the Massachusetts Latino Chamber of Commerce, they have been assisting me along the way.”

MA Latino Chamber of Commerce President, Carlos Gonzalez reemphasized the number one concern for Latino small business is access to capital and technical assistance.
